“Meet me at the cone.”
The original Kris and Kates Ice Cream store, located at 2330 N. 36th St., is hard to miss.
The giant pink-and-white ice-cream cone sits right off the Belt Highway making the saying, “Meet me at the cone” very fitting. But it wasn’t always a pink cone!
Previously a Twistee Treat, that opened in 1993, the cone was originally an orange-brown “waffle cone” color.
In 1997, the restaurant was purchased by Gary & Dianna Power, who gave ownership to their children, Kris and Kate. The two established a ’50s and ’60s theme, featuring pictures of Elvis Presley, old signs with era-appropriate vehicles as well as the aforementioned music that plays over the restaurant’s loudspeakers.
The sisters grew Kris and Kates for 22 years and it became a staple in the town of St. Joseph, Missouri.
In 2020, the business was sold to new ownership, Austin & Kelly Evans, remains family owned & the legacy of Kris and Kate’s Ice Cream will live on & continue to grow in St. Joseph for years to come!
In 2022, Kris and Kate’s second location was opened in Downtown Maryville, MO, the home of the Bearcats! We are excited to establish a fun, family atmosphere in Maryville just like St. Joseph, for many years to come!
